BangShift.com Super Simple Split Wishbones – Iron Trap’s 1928 Ford Model A Roadster Pickup Shop Truck Project Continues

Here is the sixth installment of the shop truck build, and it’s getting front suspension! This new, simple, and clean split wishbone setup is just what this truck needs.

The more I watch Iron Trap videos the more I want to build a 1920-1940 hot rod. They seem so simple and bare-bones if you want them to be and that means that you can put one together pretty quickly if you have the right parts and pieces laying around. Since the Iron Trap gang does, this cool shop truck project should be pretty simple and straightforward for them to get up and running. It’s especially nice since it is going to be a shop truck and not something that has to be super clean and finished when done.

That doesn’t mean it won’t be cool though! Check out video one of this project. There is more to come and you’ll dig it.

Now that the engine and transmission is mounted in place, the next step is to create mounts for the split wishbones. We could not do this earlier in the project because you need the weight of the engine to set caster. First Matt and Steve work on setting the caster between 6 & 8 degrees back. Once they find the sweet spot Matt works on creating a simple plate bracket that he can ream for the correct taper of the tie rod end. After some plasma cutting and welding the front end of the Roadster Pickup is locked in!! One step closer to taking it for a spin!!
