Electric vehicles (EVs) have afforded car designers new opportunities to bring futuristic concepts to life. While automakers and start-ups have their own in-house design teams, they also lean on companies with dedicated expertise in the creation of prototype designs, mock-ups, and full-scale concept vehicles.
Michigan-headquartered Prefix has been in the vehicle concepts business since 1979, working closely with some of the industry’s biggest incumbents, but also with a growing number of EV start-ups. The company is more than just a design house, with paint shop and assembly facilities that put it on a level with contract manufacturers such as Magna Steyr or Valmet Automotive. Some of the latest names to work with Prefix include Rivian, Workhorse and Nikola.
Automotive World spoke with Jhan Dolphin, Vice President of Business Development at Prefix, to discuss some of the major trends in EV design and key design traits to expect with next-generation EV models….
