Lewis Hamilton finally signs deal with Mercedes-AMG Petronas

The Lewis Hamilton contract saga has come to an end. The Brit signed a contract for one more season with Mercedes-AMG Petronas. Financial details are kept under wraps.

Lewis Hamilton has finally put his signature on a new deal with Mercedes, following months and months of delay. He will therefore remain with the team that he has been driving for since 2013. Throughout this period, he won seven championship title. The only exception was the 2016 season. It was the year his teammate, Nico Rosberg, became a world championship title holder before he decided to retire.

Lewis Hamilton puts an end to speculation and signs a one-season deal. The unofficial deadline was the end of February. But with Toto Wolff in quarantine in Kitzbuhel, Austria, due to the Covid-19 infection, negotiations jammed.

Rumors have it that the parts would not come to terms with reference to the financial details. Unofficial sources claimed that Lewis was asking for a 60-million euro salary. The trio leading the team, made up of Daimler, INEO and Toto Wolff, would refuse his financial demands. The German media claims a sum somewhere around 40 million euros.

Lewis Hamilton is the initiator of the pro diversity and anti-racism campaign. It was his idea that, in 2020, the Silver Arrows and the silver racing suits turn black. They will return to silver this season.

The 36-year old driver holds 95 victories in Formula 1. The figure makes the Brit a record-holder, after he took over Michael Schumacher in 2020.
