ŠKODA Australia’s first release for the year is a brand new nameplate, the long awaited SCALA compact hatchback, with the new model joining the recently debuted KAMIQ 85TSI compact SUV.
Visually, the SCALA features ŠKODA’s latest, highly distinctive design language, while embodying the ethos of ‘more car for the money’. Standard specification, in terms of safety, convenience and infotainment systems, is formidable.
The SCALA will be offered with a potent 110TSI turbocharged petrol engine, driven through either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG transmission, across three range variants; the 110TSI, Monte Carlo and initially, the Launch Edition.
Though ostensibly the ‘entry level’ variant, the 110TSI model grade features an auto tailgate, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, virtual cockpit, lane Assist, seven airbags, and auto-dimming, power-folding/adjustable/heated exterior mirrors.
Hill hold control, fatigue detection, a rear view camera and a tire pressure monitoring system are also fitted. Full LED tail lights with dynamic (sweeping) rear indicators, 18-inch alloy wheels and tinted privacy glass are standard.
Smartlink integration with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, and wireless charging all feature. The innovative Virtual Cockpit, with a 10.25-inch high definition colour display, is also standard across the range.

A newly prominent infotainment system (8.0-inch on 110TSI and Monte Carlo variants and 9.2-inches on Launch Edition) provides a full suite of apps and services at your fingertips, while red ambient lighting completes the impressive interior layout.
The Monte Carlo and Launch Edition build on this solid base. In the Monte Carlo this includes signature red styling in the sports seats and standard panoramic sunroof, and in the Launch Edition leather trim and the premiere of wireless Smartlink connectivity.
The Monte Carlo, on-top of the 110TSI, scores exterior black elements, full LED headlights with AFS, dual-zone ‘Climatronic’ air conditioning with a humidity sensor, KESSY with SAFE and alarm, and sport chassis control (-15mm), including drive mode select.
The Launch Edition goes a step further with body coloured door mirrors, chrome grille frame and window surrounds, 18-inch VEGA Aero alloy wheels, leather/suedia seats, heated front and rear seats, and an electric driver’s seat.
It also adds an AMUNDSEN 9.2-inch infotainment system, satellite navigation, light assist/rain sensor/auto dim rear view mirror, wireless SmartLink (Apple CarPlay only at launch – Android Auto available later in 2021), and auto parking assist.
Further still, it scores side assist (with blind spot monitoring) and rear traffic alert. Like all ŠKODA models, the SCALA comes with a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, and capped price servicing.
Pricing for the new ŠKODA SCALA starts from $26,990 (drive away), with the Launch Edition fetching $35,990 (drive away). For further information, contact your local ŠKODA dealer.
