The Mercedes-Benz EQC 4×4² is the extravagant electric off-roader. The project demonstrates that electrification can go ever further. As far as the off-road, apparently.

The extreme one-off project tests the limits of the company’s first EQ product. Development engineer Jurgen Eberle coordinated the work. If the name sounds familiar, it is because you have heard of him before. He is the man behind the E 400 All-Terrain 4×42 model.

“This drivable study clearly shows that alongside a passion for e-mobility, we at Mercedes-Benz lay a strong claim to leadership in this sector and will heighten the emotional appeal of this even further in the future”, says Markus Schäfer, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG responsible for Daimler Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars COO.

The Mercedes-Benz EQC 4×4² is based on the EQC 400 4MATIC. The standard model underwent various modifications. It now features multi-link portal axles and the headlamps have become “lampspeakers”. They also play the part of a loudspeaker.

The Mercedes-Benz EQC 4×4² comes with its own soundscape. The acoustic production comprises sounds that give the driver feedback on system availability and vehicle parking. Various parameters send feedback indicating the position of the accelerator pedal, speed or energy recovery rate. The technology is based on intelligent sound design algorithms. They thus calculate the sounds coming from the amplifier of the sound system in real time, while the interior loudspeakers to reproduce them.

The Mercedes-Benz EQC 4×4² shows there is no limit for electric vehicles

The Mercedes-Benz EQC 4×4² shows that the owners of electric models do not need to refrain from their passions. The model is capable of driving through sand in desert regions, on rocky terrain and mountain streams. Meanwhile, there is no compromise on comfort and safety.

The EQC 4×4² also features a roof-rack for tent installation and the capability of a trailer operation.

Thanks to its portal axles, it now stands at 293 millimeters from the ground. That is more than twice the ground clearance of the standard EQC. Even the G-Class is 58 millimeters lower. The fording depth has increased by 15 centimeters, all the way to 40 centimeters.

It also boasts amazing approach and departure angles of 31.8 degrees at the front and 33 degrees at the rear, even better than those of a standard G-Class.

As for its height, when putting it next to the series production model, the difference is quite obvious. It is 20 centimeters higher. Prominent wheel arch flares extend the model by 10 centimeters in width.
